Why call it brunch?
Brunch is a blend word of breakfast and lunch. It is a meal served instead of breakfast or lunch at some time before 2 pm. Brunches are typically enjoyed over the weekend when waking up late after partying the night before. They are usually served with an alcoholic drink. The term first began to be used in Britain in the late nineteenth century. It became popular in the USA in 1930.
Okay, so you have decided to do brunch and need some inspiration. So what are the choices?
Recipes with avocados
Avocados are an excellent ingredient for brunch meals. They provide great flavour, are carb friendly, and add great colour. The following brunch meals contain avocados
Tex Mex baked avocados (Avocados baked in a spicy tomato sauce with eggs and cheese), Mexican eggs benedict ( Poached eggs with refried beans, avocado and cheese placed on tortillas and topped with a Poblano sauce) and Satay French toast with avocado (Bread dipped in a coconut and peanut satay sauce, and then baked in the oven. Topped with avocado and Chillies)
Chillies, cheese and eggs
Another excellent ingredient widely used to make brunch is eggs. They are combined with various ingredients, but most often with cheese. Brunch dishes with Chillies, cheese and eggs include Chiles Rellenos ( A great recipe from Mexico. Poblano Chillies filled with cheese, coated in an egg batter and fried) ,Spicy scrambled eggs (scrambled eggs, with onions and chillies) and Strapsada (a Greek Brunch meal, Strapsada is made with eggs, Feta cheese, tomatoes, chillies and onions).
Other egg dishes
Besides being combined with cheese as above, eggs can be combined with sausages, tomatoes, curry bases and a host of other ingredients. The following are examples:
(Mexican version of Shakshuka Heuvos Rncheos is made with eggs in spicy tomato sauce on tortillas), curried eggs on toast (spicy curried eggs served hot on toast) and Boerewors and eggs (South African spicy sausage served with fried eggs)
And the list goes on. When it comes to spicy brunches, there is an infinite choice.
What drinks to serve
A typical brunch is served with an alcoholic drink (or two). Some good spicy options for drinks include Bloody Marys, spicy Margaritas. Micheladas and Martinis Margaritas, in particular, come in various forms, including Pineapple Chilli Margaritas, Jalapeno Margaritas and Habanero, and blood red-orange Margaritas
What else do you need?
To make your brunch complete, you need some excellent fresh bread, coffee, and maybe hot chocolate. To keep the theme spicy, you may want to include some spicy cheese and onion bread, and a chocolate drink the Aztecs used to drink called Xocolatl .Coffee beans infused with Chillies can be bought online.
