IIn this recipe spiciness is added to a dish very popular in Germany. While spiciness is not a traditional feature of Frikadellen, I am of the opinion that the addition of chilli flakes takes a great dish and makes it better. Guten Appetit !
Ingredients
- Minced beef – 500 gr
- Minced pork – 500 gr
- Stale white bread – 4 slices
- Milk - ½ cup
- Onions – 2 medium (finely diced)
- Eggs – 2 large
- Garlic – 2 cloves (finely chopped)
- Chilli flakes – one tablespoon
- Black pepper- 1.5 teaspoons
- Salt – one teaspoon
- Prepared mustard – 2 teaspoons
- Ground ginger – one teaspoon
- Nutmeg- ¼ teaspoon
- Ground coriander – one teaspoon
- Paprika – one tablespoon
- Vegetable oil – 6 tablespoons
Instructions
- Place the bread in the milk. Allow soaking for 15 minutes.
- Add two tablespoons of oil to a frying pan. Bring to medium heat. Add the onions and cook until starting to change colour.
- Add the garlic and cook for a further minute.
- Remove from the cooker and allow to cool.
- Drain, squeeze out excess milk and keep bread to one side.
- Add the remaining ingredients into a mixing bowl (except the remaining oil)
- Add the drained bread, onions and garlic to the mixture.
- Using your hands, blend the mixture until well combined.
- Divide and form into patty shaped portions (about 10 to 12)
- Place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes
- Heat the remaining oil in the pan used to fry the onions and garlic.
- Fry the patties in batches until nicely browned.
- Serve – These are also great cold.
